Characteristics of sensitive skin

01. Redness

Redness in the skin is common for sensitive skin. Struggling with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis will cause reddening in your skin as well as irritate the skin. Redness in the skin when in contact with harsh skin care products or certain chemicals can also cause reddening. All in all, leading to sensitive skin.

02. Stinging

A burning or stinging feeling on your skin is your body’s way of telling you something is not right. It can be triggered by various things such as a skin condition or skin contact with an irritating product. Stinging is discomforting.  If you have sensitive skin, you might have experienced it when having used products containing alcohol or fragrance as these ingredients are known to provoke sensitive skin types.

03. Itchiness

Itching is another characteristic of sensitive skin. Itchy skin can be triggered by a skin condition or by contact dermatitis. Sensitive skin is less protected from external irritants leading the skin to easily feel itchy. As it can be difficult to determine what causes itchy skin, it is always a good idea to consult your dermatologist for any help or advice.

04. Breakouts

If you are prone to breakouts, you might have sensitive skin as well. Breakouts occur due to a low skin barrier whereas skin will react to its internal and external environment. Breakouts for sensitive skin are often a regular occurrence and are hard to care for. Our Redness Serum and Redness Cream are made for sensitive skin helping control redness and soothe irritated skin.

FAQ – Sensitive skin

How do I know, if I have sensitive skin?

If you have experienced any of the abovementioned characteristics of sensitivity, your skin would probably feel much more comfortable and cared for with the use of mild products developed for sensitive skin. Sensitivity is not necessarily a constant occurrence as you can experience more sensitive skin from time to time depending on weather or a sudden allergic reaction to a cosmetic product.  Struggling with skin concerns like eczema, acne, and rosacea will also be characteristic for a sensitive skin type.

What causes sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin can be caused by various factors, so it is not easy to determine what causes sensitive skin. Usually, sensitive skin is a side effect of having a skin concern causing redness and itchiness in the skin. Allergies, lifestyle, environmental and can also cause sensitivity. If you are unable to identify the reason for your skin sensitivity, we will recommend contacting your dermatologist.

How do I care for sensitive skin?

It’s not straightforward establishing the most nurturing and caring skin care routine as skin type isn’t the only factor to consider. Both internal and external factors must be considered. Internal factors such as genetics, hormones, and diseases will impact your skin type and external factors such as weather changes.
Having sensitive skin, you should use products with mild ingredients suitable for your skin. Products with ceramides will help restore and protect your skin’s barrier enabling you to care for your skin in a gentle way. Also, avoid skin care products with irritating ingredients such as alcohol and fragrance.
