How to care for acne-prone skin
01. Consistency
The first piece of advice for acne-prone skin is to establish a consistent skin care routine. We don’t believe in overnight wonders, and we preach that consistency is key for all people treating a skin condition or in general trying to improve their skin. Skincare products need time, patience, and stability to show their full potential.

02. Cleansing
Cleansing is the first step in a consistent skincare routine. A gentle cleanser is best to use when having acne-prone skin in order to remove dirt and sebum. We recommend our Cleansing Gel or Cleansing Foam as both products contain the active ingredients of lactic acid and citric acid, which are alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). Lactic acid helps minimise breakouts as it has antibacterial properties whereas citric acid helps to repair the skin barrier by balancing the level of acidic pH in the skin. Salicylic acid is also an AHA found in the Cleansing Gel. All in all, these two cleansing products contain a cocktail of caring ingredients and acids ensuring cleansed acne-prone skin.

03. Serum
Serums contain higher levels of active ingredients than moisturisers. It is the nurturing agent in your skin care routine giving your skin an intense ingredient-boost while treating clogged pores, skin redness, hyperpigmentation, and dehydrated skin effectively. Our Redness Serum with niacinamide and salicylic acid has many benefits for acne-prone skin, and we recommend applying a few drops to your face before your moisturiser.

04. Moisturiser
Acne-prone skin tends to be oily. So, you might be confused when we still recommend you use a face cream in order to protect your skin barrier. Importantly when choosing a light-weight face cream for acne-prone skin is to find a cream that won’t clog the pores of the skin. Silicone is known to block pores due to it being difficult to properly rinse off the skin. None of our products contain silicone.
FAQ – Acne-prone skin
Acne is one of the most common skin concerns. Meaning even though you might feel alone with your skin concern, many other people have skin exactly like yours. Experiencing breakouts due to skin becoming blocked with bacteria, dead skin cells, and sebum leads to the occurrence of pimples and red inflammatory spots most known as acne.
It can be difficult to pin down the reason for an acne breakout. A combination of factors contributes to the formation of acne, including hormones, genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors. All factors lead to an overproduction of sebum leading to clogged pores causing breakouts. Oily skin is known to produce much sebum. Therefore, it is the skin type most vulnerable to breakouts.
Various advice for acne-prone skin exists. We have one rule of thumb that is easy to remember when looking for new skincare products: lightweight products are better for your pores and acne-prone skin. This is much simplified.
