Our approach

Healthy skin starts with care. At Apeer, this also applies to the choices we make regarding our products and packaging.

We work from a simple approach: choosing materials and solutions that make sense for the product, the quality, and the overall solution. That is why we use, among other things, PCR plastic in our packaging, as well as FSC-certified paper and cardboard where these are part of our packaging solutions.

Our products are developed based on dermatological expertise and active ingredients that are carefully selected for their function and proven properties. The same thoroughness applies to our choices regarding materials and packaging.

We do not believe in perfection as a benchmark. Neither for skin nor for the choices we make as a brand. Skin is not perfect – and it does not need to be. We are not chasing perfect skin, but developing skincare for real skin.

We know that no solution is perfect. Therefore, we are open about our choices and continuously investigate new possibilities when it makes sense for Apeer – without compromising on the quality and function of the product.

For us, it is not about being perfect. It is about being conscious of the choices we make and continuously learning how we can do things better.

How we work

01. Production

All our products are developed in Denmark and manufactured in Europe. We work closely with the factory that produces our skincare products, which gives us insight into the production processes and allows for continuous dialogue about ethics and responsibility. This collaboration also makes it easier for us to ensure that our requirements for responsible and ethical production are met.

How we work

02. Packaging

From the beginning, it has been our wish to limit the amount of packaging around our products.

Therefore, as a consumer, you will find that most of our products do not have outer packaging. When outer packaging is not necessary for the protection, function, or information of the product, we have chosen to omit it.

We use various materials in our packaging based on the needs of each individual product. When we choose glass packaging, it is primarily for the sake of the product, its quality, and its function. Likewise, we use, among other things, PCR plastic as well as FSC-certified paper and cardboard where these are included in our packaging solutions.

Choice of materials and packaging solutions are assessed based on the product's function, quality, and durability requirements. There is no single solution that fits all products, which is why we make our choices based on the individual product rather than one fixed packaging solution.

How we work with responsibility

03. Transport

All our products are produced within the EU, where our valuable goods are transported to our warehouse via road transport. We aim to find a more sustainable way to transport our goods from production to warehouse, so we can contribute to improving the environmental impact that transport has on the planet.

How we work with responsibility

04. Warehouse

In our warehouse, we exclusively use FSC mix certified packaging and recyclable packing fill. We have digitised wherever possible to save on paper. We always advise the end-consumer to reuse or recycle the packaging their products are delivered in. Remember to reuse before you recycle!

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The four focus areas mentioned are closely linked to UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 on promoting responsible consumption and production – a goal that we, as a newer company, have a particular focus on integrating into our business practices. We continuously work to make conscious choices regarding production, materials, and ingredients to contribute to a more balanced and well-considered approach to consumption in the skincare industry.

In addition, we have also initiated measures related to other Sustainable Development Goals, including:

Goal No. 03

UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 3 on Good Health and Well-being is an important guideline in our product development work. We are dedicated to formulating skincare products without ingredients that are known to be problematic or unnecessary, and which may cause concern for the consumer. All our products are dermatologically tested, and several are also either clinically documented, AllergyCertified, vegan, or perfume-free – depending on their purpose and target group.

We want information about our products to be transparent and easily accessible, so that consumers can make an informed choice. Therefore, ingredient and certification information is clearly stated on the packaging.

We do not use silicone in our formulations. Although silicone itself is not considered harmful to health in skincare, we have opted not to use it for environmental reasons, as it degrades very slowly in nature. Therefore, all our products are declared silicone-free.

Goal No. 12

The four focus areas mentioned already reflect how we relate to UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 on responsible consumption and production. As a new player in the market, it is important for us to take a stand on how we navigate an industry characterized by high consumption and extensive production.

At Apeer, we want to take responsibility by thinking consciously and long-term, both in the development and distribution of our products. Our approach to skincare is based on offering dermatologically tested formulations with active ingredients, developed to meet various skin needs – with care and functionality at the center.

We are first and foremost a skincare brand, but we also work with the ambition to contribute to more ethical and responsible production. This means that we continuously make choices that aim to reduce waste and support a more balanced approach to consumption.

Goal No. 14

Global Goal No. 14 on Life Below Water is an area we actively address in our product development and packaging choices. We strive to consider the marine ecosystem and its biodiversity by, among other things, using PCR plastic (Post-Consumer Recycled plastic) in our packaging, which reduces the need for new plastic production and can help lessen the burden on the world's oceans.

Furthermore, we use a plant-based version of the ingredient Squalane, which is an alternative to Squalene extracted from shark liver. This form is chosen partly out of consideration for animal welfare, and partly because the hydrogenated, plant-based version is more stable in formulation and function.
