Fragrance-free – what does it mean, when is a product free of fragrance, and why choose a fragrance-free skincare product?
Skincare without fragrance reduces the risk of allergic reactions triggered by intolerance to perfume. Also, look out for the international label Allergy Certified, which guarantees that products do not contain fragrance or preservatives that can trigger allergic skin reactions in users.
What does fragrance-free mean?
Fragrance-free means that a product does not contain any added scent. Therefore, you can look for the fragrance-free label if you have fragrance allergies or prefer to avoid skincare products with fragrance. It is worth mentioning that even if a product is fragrance-free, it is still possible to experience allergic reactions to ingredients that one may be sensitive to. Therefore, it is a good idea to perform a patch test on your inner elbow before regular use of a new skincare product. Apply a small amount of the product and observe how your skin reacts to it. This can help identify any potential allergic or sensitizing reactions before applying the product to your face or other larger areas of the body.
When is a product free from perfume?
Let’s start the answer to this question: What ingredients do you think fragrance-free skincare contains? It’s easy to believe that fragrance-free products are organic and only contain natural ingredients. But that is not entirely true. Many natural ingredients indeed contain fragrances that people can be prone to developing an allergy to. Therefore, ingredients created in controlled environments are often both fragrance-free and more hypoallergenic than natural ingredients. Therefore, you can be confident that a product labeled as fragrance-free does not contain ingredients that can cause an allergic reaction to fragrance.
Why choose fragrance-free skincare?
There can be many different reasons for choosing fragrance-free skincare. In Apeer, we have made a decision not to add fragrance to our facial products: cleansers, masks, serums, and facial creams*. We aim to make it easier for people to choose fragrance-free options in their everyday skincare products. The fact is that the more you are exposed to perfume, the greater the likelihood of developing an allergy to it.
